Camp Adair photographs collection [graphic], 1942-1960.

Photographs of Camp Adair, a World War II army training cantonment north of Corvallis Or., dating from 1942-1960. Most of the photographs date from 1942-1944 and depict the camp's buildings and grounds; soldiers and personnel, including members of the 91st Powder River Infantry Division, 96th Deadeye Infantry Division, 104th Timberwolf Infantry Division, and the 70th Trailblazer Infantry Division, all stationed at the camp; field instruction and training exercises; service club; ceremonies; and the camp's hospital and its staff and patients, including photos of the U.S. naval hospital established there in 1945 after the army had withdrawn in 1944. There are also interior and exterior photographs of the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) building, built at the Adair Air Force Station on the site of Camp Adair in 1957. Most of the photographs were published in the Oregonian and Oregon Journal newspapers. Other photographers include the U.S. Army Signal Corps and the Public Relations office of Camp Adair.

Congress passed a resolution creating a national weather service on February 9, 1870, and it was signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. This new law directed the Secretary of War to take meterological observations and provide warnings of approaching storms. The Brevet Brigadier General Albert J.
